Friday Unwind – Stop focusing on the outcome; focus on the process

19 Jun

Good morning and happy Friday.

James Victore is a professor, a designer, and an author. He is also someone who can tell it like it is. If you get a chance, please check out his YouTube channel called “Burning Questions”. (Better yet, subscribe and get the little video nuggets each week). In each post, he responds to letters sent in from designers and creatives from around the world.

In this episode, he tackles the topic that we highlighted in this week’s 5 for 5 blog post (http://www.5for5blog.com/5-for-5-blog-love-the-process/). In the course of his answer, he said something that really struck me:

“If you concentrate on the outcome while you are in the work, you will ruin the outcome. Relax and learn to love the process.”

He is spot on: Focus on your growth. It is the missteps and failures as part of the day-in and day-out grind that really bring meaning to our lives and careers. Destinations and outcomes come and go, but as you push yourself to get a little better each day, you are preparing for the bigger challenges that can make an even bigger difference for your clients, your teams, and yourself in the future.

Enjoy. have a great weekend.

all the best, kevin

Good morning….a little mid week motivation for you:

“The good life is a process, not a state of being. It is a direction not a destination.” ~Carl Rogers

Have a great rest of the week.

Friday Unwind – Changing your world via storytelling

12 Jun

Good morning everyone.

Staying with this week’s topic of presentation and storytelling here is a video on how to integrate your story the way the greatest communicators do. Nancy Duarte is one of the premier experts on presenting and using story to make a difference. Please consider checking out her website (http://www.duarte.com/) and her books “Resonate” and “Slide:ology”.

I love this quote from early in her presentation:

“An idea is powerless if it stays inside you.”

Have a great weekend.

All the best, kevin
